Spring in Steamboat

So it is offically spring.. but I think mother nature forgot to let Steamboat know. It has been snowing for days! And a lot of it!  We are getting more and more excited for our spring break in Manhattan Beach.  We are leaving on Grace's 7th birthday, so I have a feeling the entire week in California will be dubbed "Gracie's Birthday Week!" We will see family, relax on the beach and hopefully visit Disneyland. I got a super great hook-up.. an old friend of mine from Tucson works for the E! Network, and was able to get me VIP tickets to see Chelsea Handler's show "Chelsea Lately."  This is so cool! She is one of my favorite comics, and I have never been to a taping of a television show before.  It is a blessing to even be able to go, but I think VIP is going to blow my mind!  Front Row!!  Anyway, needless to say, our anticipation for our vacation is becoming almost too much to bear!

Everything else around here has been business as usual.  We got to head to Denver for the weekend last week to see Aunt Christina. (Uncle Chris was out of town..boo!)  We visiting the Museum of Nature and Science, and bought our first BRAND NEW CAR!  It only had 20 miles on it when we took it home.  A big accomplishment for John and I..  I guess we really are grown-ups now. Its a 2011 Kia Sorento.  Great car, great safety ratings, and loads of fun to drive.  In the coming weeks we have one special birthday to celebrate, and a few school functions to attend.  Delaney is competing in her school's talent show for the first time, plus the entire 3rd grade at Strawberry Park Elementary will be visiting John at the radio station for a tour.  Pictures and maybe even a video will be posted soon!

Gracie-isms

Mustaches!
Dancing to her own music. Always.

Grace is one of the funniest people I have ever known. And not because she is mine, and not in a little kid way. She is seriously hilarious. Some of my favorites:

"Burping is like Jesus for me". -age 5

Notice that she is praying because we are at a church.
"I have to make sure to extracize to keep my bootie small" - age 5 (note the spelling, this is how she pronounces it)

"My mom said you have to have a husband to have a baby. Things aren't looking good for you, so you may want to look into buying one.". -age 4, after hearing that her unmarried preschool teacher was pregnant.

There are hundreds! I could go on and on. Here is tonight's:
I am washing Gracie's hair in the bath..
G- "You're getting it in my eyes!
Me- "it's tear free and all natural."
G- "Well I am tear-free intolerant. Look it up."
Me- "How did you determine that?"
G- "I saw it online and came to the conclusion. Google Mom, duh."

Keep in mind that she has never been online. I have a feeling we are in for it. Big time.

And Winter drags on..

So let's just jump right in to the blog life, shall we?!
Blues Break was 2 weeks ago (Steamboat lets kids out of school for a week to get out of the snow) and we went to San Diego!  It was a blast.  We rented a great house right on the beach, and really just hung out and enjoyed eachother.  Brooke, John's 18 year old sister, and our summertime nanny also came along.  We did some fun things, like the zoo, Old Town San Diego and the Shipyard.  We also got to see old friends who now live on Coronado.  They were our neighbors in Napa when Delaney was born, so it was a kick to see them after so many years.  Another good friend even drove down from Santa Barbara to hang for a day or two.  The best thing we did was BEACH it!  It was about 60 degrees, wish it could have been warmer but still way better than snow! I even had a special event to celebrate on vacation.. Turning 30!  It was definitely a memorable birthday full of the things and people I love the most! But alas we had to return to the winter paradise we call home. Snow snow and more snow.. Hopefully only another month or two..
Until next time.. stay warm!
